COACH

PIRJO PUHAKKA

Passion for constant development

I am Pirjo Puhakka, Executive Coach, Coach Mentor and Coach Supervisor, living in Helsinki, Finland and working virtually with clients comings from different parts of the world. Coaching has been an important part of my life over 10 years.

About Pirjo

The core philosophy in my work is the belief that everybody has unused potential and resources, and I want to help my clients to find and harness their potential and resources. I want to encourage my clients to go out of their comfort zone as this where I believe you learn the most.

I have a strong theoretical background and practical experience on coaching, development and making change. I hold a master’s degree from Coaching and Behavioural Change (Henley Business School, University of Reading, UK). I am a trained Coach Supervisor and one of the pioneers in Coaching Supervision in Finland. I have a solid training and experience in Coach Mentoring as well.

I have three international coach accreditations:

Master Practitioner Coach (European Mentoring and Coaching Council), Professional Certified Coach (International Coach Federation), and certified Coach Supervisor (EMCC’s ESIA accreditation).

I have had a close co-operation with Henley Business School for years, starting with Henley’s world-class eMBA programme, and then moved to Henley’s coaching offering. I currently train international cohorts of new coaches in Henley’s highly ranked Professional Certificate in Executive Coaching Programme.

Continuous development professionally and as a human being is a passion for me. I have come a long way professionally, studied widely (e.g., three masters’ degrees) and made several big changes in my career. Currently I am deepening my knowledge and skills around Relational Mindfulness, with support of Emma Donaldson-Feilder.

What energizes me are the daily walks with my dog, by the see or in a forest. Close to my heart are being in nature, regular Mindfulness practices, reading, good food and travelling with family. I love the different seasons we have in Finland, as the change of seasons brings variety to life and hobbies. An important mental image for me is a forested path, waiting for the wanderer.

coach

My job as a coach is to help my client to see a way forward – with clarity and confidence.

I want to support leaders to grow and become better in leading others and themselves, bringing value to the whole system they operate in. I have coached hundreds of leaders, supporting their growth as leaders, and helping them to find and harness their potential. I have coached leaders coming from private, public and non-profit sector.

My core philosophy as a coach is that everybody has unused potential and resources. I want to support my clients to find and harness their potential and resources. I believe that the best solutions are found from within. This is why my role as a coach is not to give advice. I want to create my clients a safe and confidential space to explore their questions and find new insights, which energize and help to make the change.

In coaching the core methods are listening, asking questions, evoking awareness, challenging, giving feedback and supporting. I have created an eclectic coaching toolbox, which I use flexibly and creatively so that the approach used suits to the client’s personality, values, goals and the overall situation.

coach mentor

As a Mentor Coach my key role is to support the development of the coach’s competences.

I have as a Mentor Coach supported the development and growth of hundreds of international coaches. Besides having a wide experience as a Mentor Coach, I have also a solid training for Mentor Coaching. I have finalized International Coaching Federation’s PCC assessor training, and I have deepened my Mentor Coach competences with the support of Tracy Sinclair and Hilary Oliver (Mentor Coaching Training by Coach Advancement Tracy Sinclair).

I am regularly working as a Mentor Coach in Henley’s highly ranked Professional Certificate in Executive Coaching Programme.

coach supervisor

Supporting my clients to be more fully themselves is key in my work, as this is the very path, I walked myself when being Supervised and then becoming a Coach Supervisor myself. My mission as a Supervisor (inspired by Miriam Orriss) is to support my clients to harness their full potential and become all of who they are.

This I want to do with open mind and curiosity, using an eclectic toolbox and drawing from a wealth of sources. Using myself as an instrument, for the benefit of the Supervisee, is the very core of my work as a Supervisor, and as a Coach as well.

I have been myself in regular Coaching Supervision since 2014. I have personally experienced both individual and group Supervision. Having experienced the benefits of Coaching Supervision steered me to start a Coaching Supervision training, and I finalized my studies in Coaching Supervision Academy (UK) year 2018. European Mentoring and Coaching Council admitted me Coaching Supervisor accreditation (ESIA) year 2020.

“To have someone supervise you who loves her work and is deeply curious and interested in yours is a stimulating and joyful place to start.”

(Shohet, 2008)
